NFP Jobs Update: be an Accountant, Marketeer, or Generalist

Just been taking a look at the Blackbaud research in The State of NFP Industry (SONII 2011), and to work within Not-for-Profits in Australia, the best roles are Accounting, Marketing, or Generalist (jack-of-all-trades), but don’t spend a lot of time developing your Telemarketing skills unless you want to be part of an outsourced team.

Here are the statistics…

NFP Job Stats - Australia 2011

Being a Fundraising Generalist, someone who can take on multiple roles, seems the best career bet to place when looking at professional development and career opportunities.

Take a look at what areas you have not covered yet in your experience; have you stayed mostly in major gifts and have yet to conquer grant writing?

Look for opportunities to learn these different vehicles of fundraising – work experience or as training – and you will be well placed for a strong future in the NFP industry.
